Season 3 Episode 17 'Break On Through'

I'm so sorry for my late late LATE review!  But, I finally got to watch the episode last night.  There were some parts that were not at all what I expected--and that's a good thing.

The preview for last week's episode definitely made it look like Damon, Rebekah, and Sage were going to have a threesome.  Good gracious, i can't tell you how happy I am that they didn't!  First of all, it's just not probable.  Second of all... gross!  It's bad enough that Damon and Rebekah got in between the sheets the first time.  And now he's exploiting that to get something he wants?  Yes, the fact that there was another white oak tree that can kill Originals is majorly important for them to know.  But I am not a fan of how he got the information.  Then again...  Sage's mind compulsion?  Oh, she's awesome!

Which pair do you like better?  Damon and Rebekah or Damon and Sage?  Or are they both just completely messed up?

I was upset with Damon divulging all of his plans to Sage.  I knew she would double-cross him!  She's head over heels for Finn!  (By the way--weird???  YES.  But, they're vampires.  What can I expect?)  Then it all made sense when Damon pulled out the old Wickery bridge sign.  "I sold my rage."  Oh yes, you did, Damon.   VERY nice!  (Though that sign should've been much more weathered.  If that was supposed to be over 100 years old, it should've been very, very different.)

Is Caroline incredible?  Yes.  Yes, she is.  She was just giving lectures all up and down this episode.  She needed to, too.  When she told Abbey that leaving would be the worst thing she could do, I thought she had gotten through to her.  I thought she would stay for Bonnie.  But of course, she didn't listen.  Does anyone?  Well, fine.  She can walk out.  I was never sold on her character anyway.  Besides, it's not like witchy Bonnie can't find her if she really wants to anyway.  On that note--

Do you think Bonnie forgave Elena too quickly?

I don't.  It wasn't Elena's fault.  But that doesn't mean I'm on Elena's side.  She's being childish and offended for all the wrong reasons.  Newsflash!  Damon and Stefan are vampires.  They need blood to survive.  Damon is trying to teach Stefan self-control.

I'm still not entirely comfortable with Dr. Fell.  It seems like she's proving herself a worthy person, but she's still creeping me out a little.  She just came in and got comfortable with everyone too fast.  I love that she thought to throw the coffee at Alaric.  I wouldn't have considered that, I don't think.

Oh, Alaric!  We have a spell to contain his evil alter-ego...  That's good.  But what do you see coming for him?  Death, jail, or just a total mind-break?

I liked this storyline because it showed that there are consequences to the supernatural.  When there are stories featuring the extraordinary, I cringe at the absence of cause and effect.  However, watching Ric realize he's crazy--that was great.  Watching him tear up the stairs after Meredith--that was great, too.  I love Alaric, but I love great writing more!

All in all, great episode!
